Psalm 84: 1-4
How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty.
My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young;
a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.
from ' I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord' by Timothy Dwight (1752 - 1817)
I love your kingdom, Lord,
The place of your abode,
The Church our blest Redeemer saved
With his own precious blood.
I love your church, O God;
Its walls before you stand,
Dear as the apple of your eye,
And graven on your hand.
For her my tears shall fall;
For her my prayers ascend;
To her my cares and toils be giv’n,
Till toils and cares shall end.
Beyond my joy
I prize its ways,
Its sweet communion hymns,
Its hymns of love and praise.
Sure as your truth shall last,
To Zion shall be given
The brightest glories earth can yield,
And brighter bliss of heav’n.
