Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant

AN ARRANGEMENT OF THE TRADITIONAL CAROL FOR SATB CHOIR, ORGAN, BRASS AND PERCUSSION.

Commissioned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for the 31st Annual CBC Christmas Sing-In in Montreal, December 12, 2010, the arrangement was premiered by the Choir of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, Montreal, under the direction of Jordan de Souza, with organist, Jonathan Oldengarm. This new setting features choir and organ with brass sextet (3 trumpets, 3 trombones), or brass quintet, cymbal and snare drum (one player) in a sprightly and joyful rendition of this Christmas favourite. The choir, a cappella on the verses, plays with varying rhythms and tempos, key modulations, and harmonies, while the brass lends a "big band" rhythmic context to each refrain.  Snare drum and cymbal freshness and foundation to the piece. With congregational participation invited on the refrain, this new arrangement will become a favorite of your choirs, congregations, and audiences.
