Christ, Whose Glory Fills The Skies
SATB choral/organ score
PEL2051-Choir and Organ
A HYMN ANTHEM FOR SATB CHOIR AND ORGAN.
This luminous setting of Charles Wesley's beloved text to the tune "Ratisbon" has a shimmering organ accompaniment suggesting glory-filled skies. The second verse, with tenors on the melody features rich harmonies taking their cue from the text. The anthem concludes with a descant that dissolves into a pianissimo cluster.
Commissioned by Noel Edison and the Choir of St. John's Anglican Church, Elora, Ontario on the occasion of the retirement of their Rector, The Reverend Robert Hulse, May 8th, 2005

Texts
Christ, Whose Glory Fills The Skies
Words: Charles Wesley (1707-1778)
Music: Ratisbon - Melody from Geystliche gesangk Buchleyn 1524
Composed and arranged by Paul Halley
Christ, whose glory fills the skies,
Christ, the true, the only Light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise,
Triumph o’er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near;
Day-star, in my heart appear.
Dark and cheerless is the morn
Unaccompanied by Thee;
Joyless is the day’s return
Till Thy mercy’s beams I see;
Till they inward light impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.
Visit then this soul of mine,
Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill me, Radiancy divine,
Scatter all my unbelief;
More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.
