A TRIO FOR PIANO, ORGAN AND HARPSICHORD

The original trio version of the keyboard composition from Paul Halley's Triptych CD.  The varying themes, rhythms, and textures, assigned to piano, pipe organ, and harpsichord, comprise this swirling, spiraling, dynamic piece, named for our nearest neighbor galaxy. A play on sevens form this contemporary masterpiece.

This piece is also available in a version for solo organ at PEL4004.

Included on the Pelagosmusic recording "Triptych", featuring keyboard works of Paul Halley (PEL1003)

    COMPOSER'S NOTES
    Paul Halley

"I can't stop playing with sevens and I wanted a piece that would feature each individual instrument in an extended solo. The title came long after the piece was recorded. Friends and family all agreed that the music had a spinning, spiraling quality but it took weeks to come up with a suitable name. At one point I got sufficiently frustrated to suggest that the piece be called 'Prelude No. 11 in A minor'. Those older composers had it easy."

Playing music that is at once vibrant and intricately contrapuntal, he deploys the instruments with a symphonic sense of coloration.” - Billboard Magazine
