A WORK FOR SOLO ORGAN

Paul Halley creates an organ fantasia of three Celtic melodies from the Outer Hebrides region of Scotland. A brilliant weaving of 'Islay Waltz' by Nancy Tunnicliffe, 'Drops of Brandy', a 9/8 jig from the border region of Scotland, and finally a tune known as 'MacCrimmons Lament', all tunes taught to Halley by a brilliant piper, Mike MacNintch.

Included on the Pelagosmusic recording "Triptych", featuring keyboard works of Paul Halley (PEL1003)

    COMPOSER'S NOTES
    Paul Halley

'There is a great piper living here in Connecticut by the name of Mike MacNintch. He must know hundreds of gorgeous folk tunes from Scotland and Ireland. These are three that I had previously used in a piece for the Winter Solstice in New York when Mike was on the stage with the Consort. I thought an organ improvisation on three Celtic melodies might be interesting. Most organists don't get to play Celtic folk tunes very often.'

"Halley puts the colors, texture, and persuasive power of the pipe organ into highly pleasurable, easily listenable, emotionally unfettered contexts.” – Michael Barone, The American Organist Magazine
