A TRIO FOR PIANO, ORGAN AND HARPSICHORD

This delightful trio keyboard composition is from Paul Halley's Triptych CD.  The opening iteration of the jig theme is heard from the harpsichord, with the piano then taking things further in a rolling, melodic form, with the organ adding atmosphere and breadth of space. A second, broader, almost majestic, theme enters midway in the piano, played against the original jig in the harpsichord. A joyful, somewhat cheeky, keyboard tag game, that delights and uplifts.

Included on the Pelagosmusic recording "Triptych", featuring keyboard works of Paul Halley (PEL1003)

'This piece was originally intended to be a harpsichord solo. I liked the idea of hearing a harpsichord sound like a twelve-string guitar. However, as always happens, the music took over and required the piano and organ to play a counter melody, but the dance quality still comes through. Harpsichords have been playing jigs for hundreds of years. This one feels like a return to the outdoor dances of more rural times.'
