A TRIO FOR PIANO, ORGAN AND HARPSICHORD

Combining three keyboard instruments in a work of atmosphere and beauty. Opening with a rolling piano underlay that evokes the easy rhythm of sparkling waves on the sea, the organ enters with a moody, fog-bound version of the hymn tune 'Kingsfold', set over the lapping of the water. The harpsichord adds percussive interest to the whole excursion. A sailing voyage beckons.

Included on the Pelagosmusic recording "Triptych", featuring keyboard works of Paul Halley (PEL1003)

    COMPOSER'S NOTES
    Paul Halley

'Summer would not be summer without some serious gunk-holing on the South Shore of Nova Scotia in our catboat. One of our favorite islands is West Ironbound where we usually see seals in the water and sheep on the hills, but rarely any humans. When I think of that island I think of fog, and the sound of surf on the Ironbound Breakers and Shag Rock. In those conditions the shores of Ironbound seem not only mysterious but timeless. Lovers of hymnody and English folk-song will detect the melody ‘Kingsfold’ in a rare 5/4 treatment within the composition.'
