Pelagos is pleased to offer
a series of choral pieces by Paul Halley which are particularly suitable
for liturgical use. Many of these compositions ( were commissioned by choral
foundations in England, Canada and the United States.
For example,
"Christ Our Passover"
is a
powerful but relatively simple setting of the Rite II text many choirs sing
at the Easter Vigil service and on Easter Day. The optional timpani part
adds more rumble to the organ pedals, suggesting the rolling of the stone
from the tomb. The "Preces and Responses"
which were commissioned for the choir of Trinity Cathedral, Sacramento,
offer a more contemporary setting of the fine 1928 Prayer Book text,
including a lush version of the traditional Lords Prayer. "Magnificat
and Nunc Dimittis" was commissioned by Philip Scriven, Director of
Music, forthe trebles of Lichfield Cathedral, England.In
addition, Paul
Halley has created over one-hundred hymn descants, available in our PEL6000
Descant Series, if you'd like to the last verse of a
hymn to new and marvelous heights.
Paul Halley continues to write many psalm settings, masses,
and settings of the Sanctus for choir and congregation with organ
accompaniment. These settings are based on seasonal hymn tunes (Advent,
Christmas and Easter) and are designed to be accessible for the congregation
yet interesting for the choir.
In addition to these new liturgical settings our catalogue includes many
anthems, motets and larger choral works,
as well as several instrumental
pieces which are perfectly suited to seasons of the church year or special
occasions.
